چکیده
This study analyses school mathematics teachers’ attitudes towards using provocative questions in teaching and assessment as a potential pedagogic innovation. By question, we mean here question designed to deliberately mislead the solver. It normally calls for an impossible task. For example, might ask proof of something that is not provable or show existence solution equation does have solution. Often catch based on restricted domain indirectly prompts use rule, formula, theorem inapplicable due their conditions/constraints. Five groups teachers did mini-test consisting questions. A post-test questionnaire was given obtain feedback possible practice enhance students’ critical thinking skills. Teachers’ responses are discussed analysed paper.

Attitudes to the Use of Alternative Assessment Methods in Mathematics: a Study with Secondary Mathematics Teachers in Sydney, Australia
Given issues related to differences in learner characteristics, effective sampling across the content domain, and recent emphases on assessing meaningfully contextualised abilities and higher-order cognitive processes, the ‘traditional’ mathematics test arguably does not provide a valid measure of student ability. Consequently, there is a need to incorporate alternative methods of assessment th...
متن کاملMathematics Teachers’ Approaches to “Listening” in Mathematics Classes: A phenomenographic approach
The ways that mathematics teachers listen to students’ explanation, influence their understanding of students and their teaching activities. If teachers be informed about different ways of “listening” to students’ ideas and conceptions concerning mathematics, they might be able to use listening as an effective teaching method to enhance students’ mathematical learning. The related literature in...

Teachers as Interns in Informal Mathematics Research
This study reports on teacher-interns’ observations of research sessions involving urban students participating as subjects in an informal mathematical learning afterschool program. The research comes from a project that investigates how minority students from low-income, urban community build mathematical ideas and engage in mathematical reasoning. Videotape data from debriefing sessions of th...
